How To Apply Wax To Your Snowboard At Home
If you decided to purchase your very own snowboard, chances are you’ll be wanting to care for it as best you can. One way you can do this is by ensuring that the wax on the base if always well applied. The reason you wax the board is not to increase grip like on surfboards, but instead to make the board more slippery and faster on the slopes. When applied, the layer of wax ingrains deep into the board’s base layer. The wax actually causes the snow to melt under your board when you’re riding so in essence you ride over a very fine layer of water. Here is the guide you need to waxing down your snowboard
Remove old wax. Before you put on the new wax, make sure the whole board has been cleaned thoroughly. You can do this by scraping the wax away from you using a plastic scraper tool. You may want to use a hair-dryer to soften the wax and base cleaner which you can get from a snowboards store. Do not however use a metal scraper as this can damage the base.
Wax on. Take an iron and set the temperature so that it just melts the new wax slowly. cotton is ironed at the same temperature so you can use this as an indicator. When you’ve got the right heat, press the wax bar against the iron and let it drip all over the board. Now iron the board directly and move it all around so that every inch has a thin wax coating.
Finishing. After the wax has cooled down (usually take around thirty minutes) you can start finishing the base. This is done by rubbing down the wax layer with a new cloth and bringing it to a nice shine. Then finally brush over it with a hard-bristled brush and remove and built up areas of wax, before buffing again. Now your ready for a taste of extreme sports action
